What really matters.

Currently I am in the process of reading John Ortberg’s When the Game Is Over It All Goes Back To the Box. In the chapter called Master the Inner Game he describes the distinction between our outer and inner selves and compares it to a game of tennis.

“Every game is composed of two parts, an outer game and an inner game. The outer game is played against an external opponent to overcome external obstacles, and to reach an external goal. (…) The outer game is what people see, what gets admired or disdained or ignored.
But there is another, more important game going on in the mind of the player. It is played against nervousness, doubt, and self-condemnation. It requires the offering of the will and the focus of the mind. Victories at the INNER game are the SOURCE of all TRUE JOY and GROWTH. The possibility of inner mastery is the highest reason why we play the game. (…)
We do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” (…)
The outer you is temporary. The inner you is eternal.”

No matter how hard we try to develop and present our outer self, it is not going to fulfill us. Nice outer image can make us and others feel content temporary, but it has no value if the inner self is not at peace. I have always known this truth, but reading this book and particularly this chapter has been a very good reminder that I also wanted to share with you. Beauty comes from within.

But I want to go tonight…/ LONDON

First of all, I’m very pleased by Arcade Fire winning the Grammys. Just saying :)

Last week I spent few days in London, and my adventures started with a couple hour long wait for my friend that was flying in from Denmark. My first stop while waiting was Vafresco – a very pleasant surprise just outside the Victoria Station. This little restaurant offers fresh and healthy food and is quaintly decorated with fresh oranges that can be made into an orange juice right there in front of you. Staff is friendly, and the best – free wifi! :)

My favorite area in London definitely was Shoreditch.  Shoreditch is located on the East side of London and currently can be considered as one of the trendiest and most artsy parts.  Vibrant Brick lane is covered in countless restaurants, and all over Shoreditch are there are vintage shops and cool independent designer shops. Two of my favorites were Keep Zero Gravity and Hurwundeki. The idea of combining a salon with a boutique is something I had been thinking of before and now I just once again saw how brilliant of an idea that is.

Spitalfield market is great for both vintage and newly inspired designer lovers. The market is open during the week but ,from the conversations with the designers and sales people there, I unraveled that the best day to experience the greatest variety of goods is Sunday. So, all you hipsters, better get down there!

Sunday-Up Market is a great place to visit if you love to turn every meal into a cultural adventure. From the wide range of choices I picked Shrilankian food because that was one of the foods I hadn’t tried before.

K0G is all about experimental womenswear designs, that blur the boundaries between art and fashion.”

Classic chic and simple swank are central to Hurwundeki’s collection. [Their] designers are resolute in providing a fit that is not only snug and flattering, but one that sees materials we use of the utmost importance and essential to providing excellence.”

Sweetheart I Ain’t Your Christ

Holiday season gives me plenty of reasons to wear dresses. Here’s my outfit for one of the Christmas parties.

Dress, necklace, ring - Urban Outfitters

Tights - House of Holland (River Island)

Boots - Jeffrey Campbell (
Solestruck)
I just heard this song a week ago, and the lyrics really spoke to me. They are true for everybody because so often we expect people provide us with something that only God can give.

I hope this holiday season has been blessed for you and so will be the year 2011!!!
