Have you ever wondered why you get so easily sidetracked from completion of tasks that would be beneficial to you and would contribute to achieving your goals and fulfilling your mission? I guess, if you have never even thought of having a mission and goals, you also wouldn’t think about this, but I believe that God has given all of us a mission, and we are given talents and abilities to fulfill it. Our ultimate goal is to love God more than anybody and other people as ourselves, and it can be done through any profession, trade or activity possible, as long as your talents and abilities are used. However, too often we wander off doing other things that at the end of the day leave us empty and feeling unhappy because we haven’t achieved anything.
John Ortberg in his book “When The Game Is Over Everything Goes Back In The Box” tells us that every person has a mission and a “shadow mission”. Our shadow mission is the stuff that attracts us the most when we get don’t concentrate on our goals. Lets say, my goal is to maintain an up to date blog that others and I can benefit from in any way. To do that, I have to put my time and effort in it, but sometimes I would rather like to watch movies. Watching movies is my “shadow mission” that distracts me from my real goals. This is just an example because, unfortunately, sometimes our “shadow missions” are more destructing and depleting. And, I guess, what I’m trying to say is that if we want to achieve our goals, it is important to realize your “shadow mission” in order to be more productive and alert next time you feel the temptation to get sidetracked.
The fact that I’m writing this does not mean I have it down. I am learning, and I hope that sharing this would be also beneficial to someone else :)
